Q: Were there any dinosaurs that ate both plants and meat? -Sathvik

A: There are actually only a small handful of dinosaurs that were omnivores (ate both plants and meat). You may know of the Oviraptor or Ornithomimus, but what do you know about the Therizinosaurs?

These were perhaps some of the strangest dinosaurs ever to walk the Earth. These dinosaurs have characteristics from many different kinds of dinosaurs and paleontologists were very confused about them for a long time. Originally they were pretty straight forward theropods, being fierce hunters.

Then…. over time they evolved into lazy sloth dinos. They got bigger over a period of 30 million years and decided they’d just hang out and eat plants. Who needs to hunt when you look this cute and don’t have to?

Another awesome Comedy Night! Aren’t these the best? I think we had a steady flow of people coming in the entire time laying down some awesome jokes. Seems like the more Comedy Nights we have the better and better they get. It’s obvious because we can rarely pick a clear winner! Still, everyone is a winner at Comedy Night.

Remember, only one person on stage at a time. We usually have a big crowd and it goes really smoothly if everyone can follow the rules. Can’t wait to see you there!

If Conan were a dinosaur...

EUREKASAURUS! Pterry here with another edition of Pterry’s True Science! This week we have a particularly incredible discovery that I had to share with you. Rex had stated before in a Daily Dino Fact that humans didn’t know anything about the color of dinosaurs. They didn’t, until now!

For the first time ever in the history of paleontology, humans have solid evidence of dinosaur color. The evidence comes from a recent discovery of a dinosaur called Sinosauropteryx that was found in China. A reddish-orange color was found in the tail feathers of a recent specimen, giving scientists their first proof about pigment in dinosaurs. Artists renditions of dinosaurs have been around for a while but up until now the coloring has always been made up completely by the artist.

Sinosauropteryx was a smallish theropod who relied on eating fast little creatures (maybe rodents) for their meals. They existed during the Early Cretaceous and may have been a close relative of the Compy. This is such an exciting discovery, I wonder what they will find out next?

Alright gang, it’s been awhile and we’re throwing another game tournament! SNOWBALL SKIRMISH to be exact. The tournament will be run in team format so it’s important your team together as soon as possible!

Here’s how it is going to work. There is a limited amount of space for the tournament. We will be taking a total of 8 teams with 3 members each. There are three rounds in the tournament, and a team member can only compete in one round. So the two teams that reach the finals will be using all three members. It’s up to the team to decide who will compete in what round.

Once you have figured out your teams, each person needs to post a comment to this post with their team name. As soon as everyone in your team has posted a comment with the team name, you will be entered in the competition. We will take the first 8 teams to register. If someone falls through by gametime, you can use a substitute.

You will be meeting with TAMMY in the Lizard Lounge at Webo Ridge at 12:00 WST (January 30th, Triassic server).

This is a great chance for your armies or blog crews to make a name for themselves. If your team wins you get the name in the blog, so get your best Snowball Skirmish crew together. It’s time for THE SKIRMISH AT WEBO RIDGE!
