Daily Dino Fact: First dino tracks found by farmboy with hilarious name

Noah's Raven - First authenticated tracks ever found

Noah's Raven

Q: Where were the first dinosaur trackways found? -Doulas1

A: Great question Doulas1. In all actuality, dinosaur tracks have probably been found by humans for centuries – they just didn’t know what they were. If you remember, the Chinese had found dinosaur bones way before anyone else did, but they thought they were dragon bones. In the United States, Native American drawings have been found next to tracks calling them “bird tracks.”

The first authenticated dinosaur tracks were found by the hilariously named Pliny Moody, a farmboy in South Hadley, Massachusetts. He dug them up in 1802 while ploughing up slabs of reddish rock. The newly found tracks were displayed at the Moody family farmhouse. The local doctor decided they were the tracks of Noah’s Raven, and the set of tracks were henceforth known by that name. It wasn’t until later that they were determined to be the tracks of a small ornithischian dinosaur.

New customer service system

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Hey guys! This may be boring to you, but interesting to your parents. We’ve just updated the site with a brand new customer service system. Now when you go to the FAQ page you’ll see a link on the left that says “Contact Customer Care.” Your parents will be taken to a screen where they enter their parent email and password. The new system will provide a one-stop customer service location for their needs.

Your parents can view the progress of their support through email and directly from this system. We have a new customer service agent as well that will be responding to the tickets which will make things go a lot faster. The new support address is support@webosaurs.com.

You guys can still email me (Rex) directly at info@webosaurs for your questions, requests, etc. The new system and agent will free up a lot of my time to answer your questions more quickly. This new update will help us take care of your needs a lot faster and we are looking forward to seeing it in action. If you or your parents have any questions about the new system feel free to email me directly!

Check out the brand new Understory Layer!

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Yo Broceratopsians! We just released a big ol’ update today for you guys. See that new area up above? Yeah, that’s the Understory Layer… and it rulez. In it you’ll find the new pet shop and the Giant Umbrella, a brand new restaurant. The pets aren’t available for purchase yet, but you can see them running around in their pens!

You can’t just walk into this place though… Dr. Nanosaurus had the password but Pterry accidently blew it up. You’ll have to collect letters hidden throughout the island and then arrange them in order if you want to get inside. Read more about the quest when you click on the main Understory Layer entrance in the Forest Floor.

Come on in to the Bluggin' Beach Bunker for a bluggin' good time

A bluggin' good time awaits

Hey there VIP members! Are you ready for another awesome members-only party at the Bluggin’ Beach Bunker? This Friday Pterry and Stretch are coming to Webosaurs’ coolest club on the island to jam out to some sick tunes and munch on a little grub. Knowing Stretch, he’ll probably wander off and fall asleep in the lava pit.

We need some dinos to help cater the party and serve refreshments to the party-goers. We’re also going to need a DJ or two to spin some tracks by the dance floor.

Be there this Friday at 17:00 WST in the Jurassic server to get down at this awesome party. Stretch and Pterry are looking forward to hanging with you!

Win a Rexxy for your video submission

It’s that time of the year again! You know what I’m talking about… the Academy Awards! The most prestigious of all movie awards is going down in a couple weeks and we want in on the action.

One of the best areas of fan creations that I’ve seen from you guys comes in the form of the videos you’ve made. They’ve been awesome. So… in this spirit we have created the first ever REXXY AWARDS! The statue is called a Rexxy and you can win one with your video submission!

Here are the categories:

Best Film

Best Director

Best Cast

Best Actor

Best Supporting Actor

Best Script

Best Short

Best Music Video

Best Comedy

Best Horror

Best Mod Movie

Best Parody

Best Editing

Best Visual Effects

Submit your videos by Friday, March 5th for them to be considered for voting. You can make them as short or as long as you want. They must take place on the island… but if you decided to do a cartoon with Webosaurs characters that works too (We may add a separate category if more than one person does a cartoon).

They can be by yourself or with a whole cast, it really doesn’t matter! The point is, let your imaginations run wild, make whatever video you want and enter into the competition. You can email me at info@webosaurs.com with a YouTube link or the file itself. Be sure to include “Rexxy Award Submission” in the subject line or it may not get judged. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.

Last bit… you can submit an old Webosaurs video you’ve already made if you like. Most importantly, have fun making your videos! Rexxy Award night will take place on March 7th.

Daily Dino Fact: Couch potatoes of the Paleozoic

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Cemeroceras in all its glory. Still, the diorama doesn't do justice to how big this thing was

Cameroceras in all its glory. Still, the diorama doesn't do justice to how big this thing was

Q: What is a cameroceras? -ShadowFlyer

A: Ahhh, I hadn’t heard of this guy until you brought it up to me. WOW, what an awesome awesome creature. Cameroceras lived during the Ordovician time period (the one ModosaurOrdo is named after) which was in the Paleozoic era. The Paleozoic era was the one that occurred before the time of the dinosaurs, the Mesozoic.

Anyway, this ancient cephalopod grew to be over 30 ft (9 m) long!!! That is about the size of a school bus. We still have cephalopods in the ocean today but they are nowhere near as big. In fact, this guy was one of the largest sea creatures in the Paleozoic, if not the largest.

Scientists believe Cameroceras lived in deep waters and fed on passing animals like trilobites. Like it’s living relative Nautilus, it is believed to be mostly blind. Essentially just eating everything that comes along its path. It was an apex predator, meaning that it really had no predators of its own. Does this mean Cameroceras was the ultimate Paleozoic couch potato? Just hanging out and eating whatever is in front it?

Nigel stands back safely from these gorgeous beasts

Nigel stands back safely from these gorgeous beasts

We’ve finally released the last of our original set of Nigel Marven webosodes. Until the new South Africa ones come out, enjoy this awesome webosode featuring the beautiful American Bison. Nigel Marven travels to central Texas to feed a few of these hungry guys and share his knowledge.

Bison are pretty incredible creatures (and a whole lot more fun to watch than cows). Too bad they’re so big, I’d love to pet one! You can find this brand new webosode at the Prairie Pool Theater.
