Bring a Friend Birthday Party – Saturday

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

So hard to believe that it’s already been a year since Webosaurs first launched into open beta. Back then there was only a small handful of dinos, and the Island has a grown a tremendous amount since then. Not just with the people involved, but what there is to do in the world. We’re so happy to keep things going on Webosaurs Island, to spend our days with such awesome dinos, and continue adding things to this place to make it your personal playground.

To celebrate, we’re throwing a party this Saturday at 10:00 WST at Buckland’s Peak. Your favorite pals Rexxy and Horns will be there, along with other Webosaurs friends. We’re going to be doing a special little giveaway too. Bring a friend to the party and get a chance for you and your friend to win a one month membership to the site.

This is the perfect chance to invite one of your bros from school, or your neighborhood pal. Come with a friend and introduce yourselves to the party mod, who will put both of your names on the list. We’ll randomly choose two pairs of pals after the party to win memberships. In order to qualify, your friend must be a new dino on the Island.

So come in, check out the party, show your friends the Island that you’ve come to know and love, and help us celebrate this awesome occasion. Thank you for all you’ve given to Webosaurs Island, you’ve helped us build this place from the ground up. See you in the Jurassic server!

Forum Titles – What are your ideas?

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Hey guys!

So the Official Webosaurs Forum is coming closer and closer to becoming a reality on the live site. One area where I’d like to hear your thoughts are the titles. You know.. when you start out new in a forum your title is “new user” or something like that. The more posts you make, the better title you get.

So let’s hear your ideas for titles. If you just want to come up with one title that sounds cool, great! If you want to suggest an entire list of titles, that’s cool too! While we may not use your entire list, we’ll be looking at your ideas to consider using in the forum.

Just post your ideas here on this post!

Daily Dino Fact: Prehistoric Slimers

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Koolasuchus? More like... KoolaAWESOMEus

Q: What was the largest amphibian during the time of the dinosaurs? -Muclser

A: We all know the Mesozoic was the time of the dinosaurs. But we’ve also learned about the flyers, the swimmers, the bugs and the mammals. One group we haven’t talked about is the amphibians! You know these creatures today… frogs, salamanders, geckos and much more. As with many modern day creatures that existed in the past, the Mesozoic versions of amphibians were huge creatures!! The most common type of Mesozoic were the Temnospondyli, which were prevalent in the Triassic and few survived through the Cretaceous.

Koolasuchus, pictured above, was one of the biggest Temnospondyli. This dude grew to be about 16 feet  (about 5m) long! The picture above doesn’t do it justice.

Koolasuchus was the size of this boat. Must have eaten some pretty large bugs.

You may not know this, but there was a large extinction event between the Triassic and Jurassic periods (want to know more? ask me in the comments) and it killed off most of the large Temnospondyli. The remaining ones through the rest of the Mesozoic were mostly small, except for our super awesome friend Koolasuchus – who lasted through the Early Cretaceous.
