Weekly Environmental Fact – EARTH DAY!!!

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Love YOUR Earth!

Hey gang, Weekly Environmental Fact time! Today we are focused on Earth Day because it is this Friday. As you know we’ll be celebrating Earth Day on Webosaurs Island and talking about all the great ways you can get involved wherever you are and help this planet that we all call home. Earth Day was started by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970 in the United States and went international in 1990. It is now celebrated in more than 175 countries every year. A lot of those countries celebrate for an entire week! Also, a couple of years ago the United Nations designated April 22 as International Mother Earth Day, so don’t even think about harming the Earth this Friday!

One of the big problems with Earth Day is that a lot of us are only good to Mother Earth during this week or only on this one day. The purpose of Earth Day is to spread the knowledge and information about how to best care for the Earth and to encourage others to do so! Earth Day was celebrated by an amazing 20 million people in its very first year and is now celebrated by more than 500 million each year. I think Earth Day is a wonderful concept, but even if it was Earth Day every single day we’d still be fighting an uphill battle. What do you think about Earth Day? In your opinion what would be the best ways to make Earth Day last all year long? In order to save our planet and leave a great place to live for future generations we need to have hundreds of Earth Days back to back to back! Leave your comments about Earth Day here!

Weekend Parties – Saturday & Sunday

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

What kinda bunny IS that?

Hey gang, it’s PARTY time and we’ve got some awesome parties going on this weekend so GET READY! This Friay is Earth Day and to celebrate we are going to have an Earth Day Party this Saturday at 12:00 WST. Just like last year, everyone that comes will receive a special Earth Day Tree to plant in their caves, Moon and I will be hanging out in the Forest Floor and away giving coin codes to dinos that tell stories about what they’ve done for Earth Day this year. Examples could include anything you’ve done at school to celebrate Earth Day, things you’ve done on your own to help the planet or even something you are planning on doing to keep this beautiful place we live nice and green. Come armed with stories to share!

On Sunday we’re having a really different kind of party, BUNNYSAURUS will be making his first official trip to the Island and he has some fun in store for everyone! Bunnysaurus will be releasing his very own wacky version of a Scavenger Egg Hunt that will lead dinos to the secret party location. This hunt shouldn’t be that difficult, but you won’t be able to get the party’s special item or figure out where we are all hanging out until you finish the Egg Hunt. Bunnysaurus is a hilarious dude and he really likes to play games like findmeh and likes to have food fights. Don’t miss him! The Egg Hunt will be released at 14:00 WST sharp and then we’ll be partying with Bunnysaurus!

Is that a duck!?!? Nooooo it's Stretch!

Party TIME! It’s been a while since we’ve seen the grooviest Webosaur on the Island, but luckily Stretch is going to be BACK on the Island and in a major way! This Saturday in the Prairie Pool Stretch is going to be having his first ever Splashathon! He’ll have a huge satchel of COIN CODES and will also be giving away a couple of special surprise items to game winners. Some of the games he’s going to be playing will be familiar, he’ll be giving away coin coin codes for game winners and correct trivia answers, but he’ll also be playing some new games. There will be an intense game of musical chairs… uhhhh musical water? Stretch will explain the details. Also, a special Stretch Photo Contest will be taking place. Take a wacky, candid, surprise photo of Stretch at the party and post it as a comment on this blog post. Our new resident Judge, MasterMarksy, will be taking a look at all the photos and picking her favorite. Shutterbugs get your cameras ready because you KNOW Stretch is going to be doing some wacky things this Saturday! See you on the Island!

Weekly Environmental Fact – Javan Rhino

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Smoooooooooooch!!

Hey gang, Weekly Environmental Fact time. It is always so bittersweet to write about these amazing animals that are nearing extinction. The Javan Rhinoceros is the topic of this week’s post and it is an incredibly cool animal who has had a tragic interaction with humans. The Javan Rhino was once the most populous Asian rhino, but sadly it is now critically endangered and arguably the most rare large mammal on Earth. There are only two groups of these incredible animals left in the wild, one tiny group in Vietnam and another slightly larger group on the Island of Java in Indonesia.

Not only are these animals incredibly cute, but they are also very interesting animals. Like most rhinos, they are very shy and would generally never attack or harm a human, but they also have terrible eyesight and if they get confused and panic have been known to charge at humans and stand their ground. These rhinos are seriously solitary, they generally exist by themselves only congregating with others in small groups at salt licks or mud wallows. There are currently none in captivity and there has not been a successful specimen in a zoo in over 100 years. They are one of those magical animals that is so wild that they just do not do well in captivity. Loss of habitat is one big reason for the decline in population of these beasts, but poaching has been their primary enemy. These creatures are so shy and there have been several reports of them in Cambodia, on the Island of Borneo and other places, but conservationists have not been able to find evidence of them in these places. Hopefully the Javan Rhino is hiding from poachers and mankind successfully and are more resilient than we currently think! What do you think of Javan Rhinos? Leave your comments here!

Comedy Night Returns – Friday

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Hardy Har Har

Hey gang, we’ve certainly had some good laughs on the Island recently, but we haven’t had an official Comedy Night in a loooooooooong time! Since Friday is Rubber Eraser Day here in the United States, we’re going to have schoolhouse related jokes this week! Think about your favorite and most funny things that go down at school, what makes you crack up more than anything else? It’s almost summer time and everyone is surely ready to get out of school, but school is awesome and sometimes we need to take a moment to recognize why we all like it so much! Also, our favorite gal-pals, Sun and Moon will be running the show and keeping us all in line this Friday. Make them crack up and they’ll give you a trophy… if you don’t make them laugh, well… you just might get a banana thrown at you!

Keep an eye out for a Special Guest, I can’t confirm that he’ll be there because I haven’t talked to him in a while (and why would I want to?), but there is a rumor swirling around that you-know-who might be on the Island this Friday. If you can make that dude laugh, you can make just about anyone laugh! Let’s finish up the week on a great not and prepare some awesome jokes for Friday! See you on the Island!

What: Comedy Night

Where: Lizard Lounge

When: Friday, April 15th – 17:00 WST

Go for the COINS!

Hey gang, it’s Monday, you know what that means… Game of the Week! I’ve been really selfish recently and making all of my favorite games the Game of the Week for the past couple of weeks. Well, I’m not stopping now, so I hope that Insectris is one of your favorites too! Insectris is awesome and is one of the most entertaining games on the Island, all you’ve got to do is knock off as many lines as possible. Knock off MAJOR lines… win MAJOR coins!

Yep, it’s that easy, head to Forest Floor, look for Insectris, get in there, play the most addicting game on the Island and then walk away a very rich dino. So easy! Well you know where I’ll be, I’m off to play Insectris right NOW! See you on the Island!
