The Chicxulub crater, site of the Cretaceous asteroid impact

Good day dino friends! Pterry here with some extremely exciting news for my feature column, “Pterry’s True Science.” Sometimes Rex let’s me stop by the blog to tell you about new information coming out in the world of paleontology and prehistory. This is a big one. The biggest one so far.

Recently a group of 41 paleontologists and scientists made a decision on what really caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. We’ve discussed this on the blog before and it has been one of the biggest debates about dinosaurs ever. Now it is put to rest as the universally accepted explanation for the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Their decision had a lot to do with the Chicxulub crate in Mexico and the strange iridium layer between Cretaceous and Tertiary aged rocks. The asteroid that wiped out the dinos measures abotu 7.5 miles wide and had the destructive power of a nuclear bomb (times 1 billion, literally).

Well with that debate back to rest, scientists can go back to arguing about whether or not dinos were warm blooded or cold blooded.As for me on the other hand, I’ll be arguing with Horns about who the smarter dino is. That should be an obvious one!

Hi Dinos! I had so much fun looking at all the caves in this week’s Cave Contest entries with Tammy!! She took me around to the dinos’ caves who sent in their cave entries and I found LOTS that I thought were winners. Though to me, everyone’s a winner heh heh heh! So here are the dinos who’s caves came out on top:

In an incident that proves Flyboy is larger than life, he overcame all odds to hop inside the Little Fang pen. As extremely dangerous as this was, Unicornosaur, Ethanator and Krashbot all looked on as Flyboy eluded certain death. Okay so they may not have been able to see it, but you have to admit that’s pretty awesome.

He also braved standing on the unknown monster cage. Luckily the other dinos didn’t have to step in and save him from any danger!

Guess what Webosaurs! It’s time for another best cave contest! Yaaaaayyyy! Since this week is the countdown to the Rexxy awards, I think it will be fun if the theme is inspired by the dino of the week - our friend Rexxy. So let’s see wacha got dino dudes. Decorate your cave in a way Rexxy would like and he and I will judge our most favorite.

Winners for both member and nonmember caves will receive a sweeeet cave banner and their caves will be featured here in the blog. So get crakin’. We start the judging on Friday.

Hey guys…

We’ve done this a few times but just wanted to get some ideas out of you. We’re starting to draw up some of the new cave items to be used in scavenger hunts over the next month and we wanted to get your ideas.

There is already a St. Patrick’s Day item planned, so don’t worry about that… but we’d like to know what else we can do for you. Keep in mind we want to have the items animated too, so think of a simple action or something they could do.

Whatever you want just let us know! We may do a poll or something, maybe not. Stay tuned dudes and dudettes!
