Rainforest Quiz Party for Rainforest Adoption Day
Saturday, November 21st, 2009In honor of Rainforest Adoption Day we threw a rainforest quiz party. Dinos had been studying up on their rainforest knowledge from the week and we put their knowledge to the test! It wasn’t just a quiz though, we learned a lot about the rainforests too! From simple facts to what is happening in the rainforests today, it was an enlightening party. Here are just a few of the things we learned about rainforests:
Rainforests cover only about 2% of the Earth’s surface but hold over 50% of its plants and animals.
Many ancient civilizations such as the Aztec and Maya thrived in the rainforest and humans still live in them today
A chunk of the rainforest the size of New Jersey is lost every year due to logging and other human practices
Rainforests are essential to the global climate, sucking up carbon dioxide to help prevent global warming
Fittingly, we held the party in our very own rainforest landscape in Webosaurs on the Forest Floor. It was great to see everyone out today talking about the rainforests and sharing our knowledge. Everyone who participated will be receiving a golden Webopedia trophy. Thanks guys!
